In this keynote address, Jean-Claude Bonichot, Conseiller d’État honoraire and former Judge of the Court of Justice of the European Union, offers a legal perspective on defending Europe’s economic, social, and environmental model.

The speech was delivered at the fifth Jean Monnet PROSPER Network event, hosted by the Faculty of Law at Université Paris-Est Créteil in partnership with Maison Île-de-France and Cité internationale universitaire de Paris, on 27–28 November 2025. The conference examined the EU’s proposed Clean Industrial Deal, focusing on how industrial policy seeks to reconcile competitiveness, sustainability, and strategic autonomy amid growing geopolitical pressure.
